WHAT WILL WE LEARN IN THE MARCH
PROGRAM?
A mother sitting at our discussion table during the Saturday
evening session shared with us what she thought about the washing
of the feet. "I wasn't too thrilled with the idea at first,"
she said a little embarassed. "But, you know, after we washed
each others feet I felt different about the idea ... like we
were more of a community. We did this together ... all of us."
That was her summary of what the most recent session of the Generations
of Faith program was like. I bet that is the way the early Christians
felt as they tried very hard to follow the ways that Jesus had
taught them.
This past year we have been exploring what we believe as Catholics
here at the Good Shepherd parish of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.
This most recent program was called "We Believe in Jesus
Christ."
If we believe in Jesus in thought and in action, then there
are some basic parts of that belief that we must acknowledge.
This was sort of a litmus test of our living with Jesus. We were
called to action in many ways. First we shared bread and wine
(actually grape juice) after dining together. It was a reverent
re-enactment of the last supper. Then we washed each others feet
to emulate the servant leadership of Jesus. We challenged each
other to be aware that each act of following Jesus brings death
to our old ways of thinking and opens us to new awareness.
In your Home Kit you will find two Crossword puzzles. Both
are titled "Jesus Death and Resurrection." One is intended
for adolescents. The other is for adults. Try your skill at answering
the crossword puzzles. It's okay to do them together as a family.
Here is the answer key for the crossword puzzles:
1. answers for the adolescent
crossword puzzle
2. answers for the adult crossword
puzzle
Have fun with these, and also find some thought provoking
articles about our Catholic faith included in the Home Kit.
